“If I had to describe myself in one word, I’d say determined” ​

Gina’s story is one of fierce determination. Diagnosed with thalassaemia as a baby, she’s defied every expectation by living her life at its fullest. Her strength comes not only from within, but also from the love of her family, her partner, and her drive to help others feel less lonely. Now a social worker, Gina supports families facing similar challenges and hopes to one day teach future doctors about thalassaemia. The Sundays she spends with her family are the perfect example of what is perhaps her most meaningful piece of advice: “Surround yourself with people that mean something to you.”​
